After Dental Implant Surgery

1. You may experience some discomfort and bleeding the day of the surgery.

2. Take all the prescribed medications based on given instructions.

3. Apply an ice bag on your face over the surgical site on the day of surgery.  A wrap around ice pack will be given to you for your post surgical care.  Ice is only used the first day.  Starting on day 2 a heating pad drapped around your jaws on low will help dilate blood vessels to allow medication to the surgcial site.  Dr. Cleave usually sees you within a couple to three days of your surgery to make sure everything is going well and that sutures have not pullled free.

4. Suture removal may be delayed for larger bone grafts.  When Platelet Rich Fibrin is used in the surgery suture removal may be completed sooner.  Every person heals differently.  Dr. Cleave will evaluate your healing closely.

5. DO NOT raise your lips with your fingers to inspect the treated area.

6. DO NOT brush teeth near the surgical site.  Brush teeth in the rest of your mouth.

7. There is often a temporary loss of feeling in the operated area and the tooth may feel loose.

8. DO NOT smoke, spit or use a straw on the day of the surgery.

9. Should any difficulties occur, do not hesitate to call our office.
