Dental Implant Facts

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a man made pure titanium or titanium allow that is used to replace and act as the root of a tooth.  Titanium has been shown to integrate with bone and attach to bone with great propensity.  An implant is placed in jaw bone to allow for the construction of a crown or bridge above it.  Implants can also be used to creat bars and attachments for dentures.  In this manne the denture is secured on a superstructure that hold the denture in that exact position and does not allow movement.

There are many prosthetic reconstruction structures that can be attached to dental implants.

Our office will talk to you about the best type of implant reconstruction you need for your particular situation.  You will be able to see the process as we analyze you jaws via the 3D Cone Beam Tomogram, make working models, and construct for you the dental prosthetic device best suited to your dental needs.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

Dental implants look and feel just like real teeth, they are permanent. structures that integrate with your bone without creating a rejection phenomenon.  They help to restore you to normal form, function, and aesthetics.  You can eas without your prosthesis moving around.

Keep in mind that dental implant procedures are very successful and that there are different modalities of treatment to fit the financial needs of most patients.

Who can place a dental implant?

Dr. Cleave is able to perform implants surgery in our own office.  Dr. Cleave is a fully credentialed  dental implantologist holding the highest educational credentials and training.

How much do implants cost?

The price of your dental implants will vary based on the level of experience of your doctor, how many implants you are having placed, the type of implants needed, amount of insurance coverage, and more. Schedule a consultation with us to determine a price for your implants and a financing plan if necessary.  Your evaluation will include a written treatment plan with all the costs listed for your dental implant reconstruction.

Do dental implants hurt?

All surgery can create pain, we all realize this.  Our office prides itself of being able to deliver moderate IV sedation for all implant surgical procedures.  Some implant procedures like the replacment of 1 to up to 5 implants can also be done withou IV Sedation.  More complicated full mouth reconstructions need to have sedation to be comfortable during and after the surgery is completed.  Certainly there is a recouperative period of time when surgery is done.  This is only natural.  Not all people heal at the same time.  The older you are the longer healing will take.  This is true with any surgical procedure, dental or non dental.  Overall, though, dental implant surgery is relatively easy and has minimal pain associated with it.

How Long Do Dental Implants last?

When cared for properly, implants can last a lifetime. Proper oral hygiene and regular dental visits are essential to the success of your implant reconstruction, whether it is 1 implant or 20 implants.  One must also take into consideration systemic disease that may develop as one ages.  An example of a disease that could jeopardize the longevity of dental implants is Type I Diabetes.
